NEW DELHI: God Of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday announced his decision to retire from Test cricket after playing his landmark 200th match against the West Indies next month, bringing an end to the intense speculation about his future

The 40-year-old Tendulkar, who has not been in the best of form in recent times, has informed the BCCI about his decision to quit Test cricket after a glorious career spanning 24 years.

In an emotional statement, Sachin Tendulkar said: "All my life I have had a dream of playing cricket for India. I have been living this dream every day for the last 24 years. It’s hard for me to imagine a life without playing cricket because it’s all I have ever done since I was 11 years old. It’s been a huge honour to have represented my country and played all over the world. I look forward to playing my 200th Test Match on home soil, as I call it a day.

I thank the BCCI for everything over the years and for permitting me to move on when my heart feels it's time! I thank my family for their patience and understanding. Most of all, I thank my fans and well-wishers who through their prayers and wishes have given me the strength to go out and perform at my best."

Tendulkar's 200th Test match is most likely to be held at his home ground in Mumbai from November 14. The Eden Gardens in Kolkata is also a contender for hosting that historic match. The BCCI has not yet announced the venues for the two Tests against the West Indies.

The fact that the BCCI squeezed in a home series against the West Indies had raised speculation that it was done to give Tendulkar the opportunity to retire in front of his home fans.

Although Tendulkar had always maintained that he would continue playing cricket as long as he enjoys playing the game, the pressure of playing at the international level has gradually taking a toll on his ageing body.

He recently retired from the IPL and the Champions League T20 event after his franchise Mumbai Indians won both the titles this year.

God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar completes 34,000 runs in international cricket

Sachin Tendulkar on Wednesday created yet another record in his illustrious career when he completed 34,000 runs in international cricket, during the first day's play between India and England in the third Test at the Eden Gardens.

Sachin Tendulkar achieved the milestone in his 193rd Test appearance for India in his 23-years long career.

Sachin fought hard against a disciplined English bowling attack on Wednesday at Kolkata, Sachin Tendulkar struggled a bit at the start, but came out looking extremely fluent after Tea, Tendulkar reached his 66th Test fifty, on the first ball after tea.

Sachin Tendulkar scored 76 runs of faced 155 balls with 13 fours, as India reach 230 for five.

Sachin Tendulkar, who has faced recent criticism on his form, got some respite after being willed on by former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly gave his former team mate some words of encouragement, ahead of the third Test between India and England that will be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Addressing a gathering which had all the members of the Indian team, Ganguly said, "Many stories are being written about the match. I wish all the luck to Sachin. I hope he scores a ton at Eden Gardens."

Sachin Tendulkar's streak of low scores might have raised a question mark over his future but senior BCCI official and IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla today came out in support of the senior batsman saying one needs to look at his "colossal record" before making any comment.

"He will hang up his boots when he thinks it's time for him to go. He does not need any advise on this. Before making a comment on his performance you have to see his colossal record and his past performance," Shukla told reporters outside the Parliament adding that the veteran cricketer will come back strongly in the forthcoming matches.

"He will do well in forthcoming matches," Shukla said.

God Of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar has been battling poor form for sometime and his last 10 innings have yielded just 153 runs at an average of 15.3, the lowest by an Indian top-order batsman in the corresponding period.

The 39-year-old's last three figure score in Tests came in January last year against South Africa.

Asked about India's loss to England in the second Test at Mumbai today, Shukla said: "It is sad. After the victory in Ahmedabad the batting line-up could not perform the way it should have. It was a turning wicket and English spinners performed better."

Shukla, though, said the board will look into the matter and would take necessary corrective measures.

"We will discuss the shortcomings and so will the team management to see how the performance can be improved," he said.

On the selection of the team for the next two Tests against England, Shukla said it remains the prerogative of the Selection Committee and nobody should interfere in their domain.

"Selectors are also former players and they will take a call on this. Whom to select and whom not to, it is their domain," he added.

Sachin Tendulkar becomes first cricketer to get 15,000 Test runs

New Delhi: God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar achieved another milestone as he become the first player in history to score 15,000 runs in Test match cricket against the West Indies at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi.

Sachin Tendulkar ended the day unbeaten on 33, Playing in his 182nd match, Tendulkar reached the mark on the third day of the first cricket Test against the West Indies when he scored his 28th run in India's second innings with a single off leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo.

After crossing the coveted milestone, the batting maestro looked up at the heavens and acknowledged the standing ovation given by his teammates from the dressing room as his partner Rahul Dravid congratulated him.

The West Indian players also came up after the completion of the over to congratulate the iconic batsman.

Sachin Tendulkar was 35 runs short of 15,000 before this match and he scored seven in the first innings before being adjidged leg-before off Fidel Edwards.

With 14,422 crowd cheering him, Tendulkar, who came in at the fall of Virender Sehwag's wicket when the team total was 95 for two, played cautiously with India needing 276 runs to win the match.

He hit just two fours after facing 76 balls to reach 28. The 38-year-old Tendulkar, the world's most prolific batsman, now needs just one hundred to complete a historic 100 international tons. He has scored 51 Test tons and 48 ODI hundreds.

Tendulkar is the first cricketer in the history of the game to reach 12, 000, 13, 000 and 14, 000 runs in the Test format. He is the leading run-scorer in both ODIs and Tests, as well as in the number of centuries scored.

Tendulkar is the first Indian cricketer to break Sunil Gavaskar's record of 34 Test centuries, and is also the only player in the limited-overs format to score 200 runs in an innings.
